This blog is all about fishing the flats in florida. I like to travel around florida and fish in all the different areas. This will have fishing techniques, fishing tips, fish pictures, tips on new tackle, and most of all the stories about enjoyment in florida's great outdoors. Thank you for sharing my experiences.

Snook on Gulp Shrimp
Took my son out for a couple of hours this morning for a boat ride and brought along his rod and reel with a couple of gulp shrimp. He ended up catching a couple short snook and a few mangrove snapper for lunch. What started out as a early morning boat ride turned into a pretty good for him gaining more confidence in artificial baits. Till next time...

Small trout and red on artificial
Went out and fished the flats in the afternoon one day this week and found some small trout and redfish. The water was real cold and the fish were not biting very well but i did manage to get a couple fish to hit.
Saw allot of fish but they would not hit anything in the tackle box.

Trout on Top!
Went out this morning to do some pre fishing for a tournament coming up. Was a cool morning so we waited till around 8:00 am. before we got out to the flat. Tried plastics on the bottom and gold spoons with very few bites. Threw a top water and this trout fell for it. Was not real aggressive thought it was allot smaller fish the way he hit. Not the best day but at least we know where one is anyway.

Popping Cork with a Gulp Shrimp
Does anyone use a popping cork with a artificial gulp shrimp on the east coast of Florida? I've looked at many sites and they don't actually say when and where to use the deadly combo. I think taking the DOA off and using a Gulp Shrimp would be an improvement, but tell me what you think.

Going out to scout for some redfish
Got out this morning scouting for some redfish. Found a school up on the flat but they did not want to bite the artificial. Going to go back out and get some live bait and see if they like that a little better. Will keep you updated. Fish looked to be in the lower slot size fish. Just good being able to locate the fish!

Redfish and Trout tournament Saturday
Fished a Redfish and Trout Tournament right close to our home this past Saturday. Fishing against most of the better fishermen in out area. Started off with the wind blowing about 15 knots before sunrise with a light shower and got worse though the day getting poured on a couple times and 30 knot gusts during storms. The lagoon was cloudy from the churning all day long.
We didn't catch anything to speak of, and only about half of the boats weighed in. Which eases some of the pain, but am still very disappointed in our performance. Well we will give it another try next month. Thinking of going out and wading if the water cleans up Tuesday or Wednesday. Feel free to leave a message or pictures interested in seeing what you are catching. Till next time "Tight Lines"
