Redfish and Trout tournament Saturday

Fished a Redfish and Trout Tournament right close to our home this past Saturday. Fishing against most of the better fishermen in out area. Started off with the wind blowing about 15 knots before sunrise with a light shower and got worse though the day getting poured on a couple times and 30 knot gusts during storms. The lagoon was cloudy from the churning all day long. 
We didn't catch anything to speak of, and only about half of the boats weighed in. Which eases some of the pain, but am still very disappointed in our performance. Well we will give it another try next month. Thinking of going out and wading if the water cleans up Tuesday or Wednesday. THE MOON PHASES AND FISHING

Fishing by the moon phase. Does it really work? To catch more fish it's not just how much time you spend on the water, as much as it is when you are fishing. There are many factors as far as time of day, weather, tide, etc. And then you hear about the moon phases.

Most everyone knows that fish seem to bite at sunrise and sunset. But moon rise and moon set is also a factor in what makes the fish bite. From what  I've read the 45 minutes before and after any one of these events is going to be when you see the best action of the day. Then one more factor is that your new moon and full moon are the best times of the month.
Weather is also to be considered in picking your best time to fish. Watch for drastic changes in the weather. when the barometer is rising or falling will trigger a bite. 

Give this a shot! It may not work for you every single time because the absolute main factor is there has to be fish in the area to be rewarded with a stellar day on the water!

The easiest way to use all this information is to watch your moon phase fishing calender and then keep your weather in mind to watch for changes in barometer.

I grew up on the Southeast coast of Florida known as "the fishing capital of the world". Growing up in a commercial fishing family I have done all types of fishing. Now I do most of my fishing inshore in the several estuaries and lagoons that we are blessed to have in our great state. With the occasional trip offshore for some of the best sail fishing, and bottom fishing known to man.

I have traveled all over Florida to fish in the many different areas and I would like to share some of my experiences with you. Inform you on what has worked out for me the best as far as tides, weather , baits, and times of the year. Also the best places to stay and eat on your fishing journeys. The best part about Florida fishing is we have so many different regions that we are always in the prime season for some species you just have to change up your fishing style a little.
